My Students

I teach 7th and 8th grade Chorus and Guitar classes. Every day, my students show up excited to sing, showing a passion for music that can only be described as magical. They have helped to create a family feel in their chorus classes where everyone supports each other and congratulates each other on their progress. We are only a month into school, and there is already a significantly noticeable increase in musical skill as far as general singing ability as well as music literacy skill.

These students want to do so much more than just sing in my class.

They want to have the opportunity to perform throughout the community. They want to go to concerts and experience music. They are working to build a lifelong passion for music, whether they are aware of that or not. They regularly come into class with a new artist or song that they've discovered and wanted me to listen to.

Right now, the county these students live in has a goal of being academically the best rural county in NC. The students are dedicated and hard-working, and I want to be able to expose these students to the world through music.

My Project

The guitar class is new to my school this year, and the kids are already off to a great start. They’re playing exercises on open strings while reading music notes on the staff, and we are working our way towards playing chords. While the kids are making great progress, we are going through supplies at a very quick rate.

Please help us purchase some additional guitar strings, picks, straps, and tuners to help the students play better in class.

Picks are getting lost or stuck inside guitars, and the strings we’ve had are starting to break, specifically the thinner E and B strings. The students will be learning soon to tune the guitars, and having the electronic tuners will help them practice carefully tuning their instrument. The guitar straps will help the students hold the instruments up in a proper playing position.

While this class will continue to go through supplies like picks and guitar strings as future semesters go by, we will continue to need supplies like this for years to come. But we are at the point where we are a few weeks into the semester, and the class is already running low on extra strings and picks. Please consider helping us out!
