My Project

Have you ever gone to the Symphony and thought to yourself, "Oh, how I would love to play the violin!" These amazing students are doing just that! However, they are little...and they tend to break strings...often!

My students are energetic 4th, 5th and 6th graders who love music.

They want to sing, dance and play instruments. If they could do all three at the same time, they would still look for more ways to create music. The school population is 2nd through 6th grade. The ensembles offered are Band, Chorus and Strings, but Band and Strings starts in 4th Grade. The most popular instrument in our school is the violin! With that, comes the need for replacement strings!

Every once in a while, when I am putting my hair in a ponytail, I take the hair elastic in my hands, and as I move to put it on my hair, it breaks and flies across the room. It was not broken or defective, it had just done its job for as long as it could, and now, is ready to be replaced. This also happens to strings on a violin. Violins are tuned by tightening and loosening the strings. There comes a time when the string just cannot take anymore "stress" and it breaks. In a classroom, this is usually followed by surprised squeals and then tears. If we had a supply of extra strings, we could get rid of the tears and replace them with smiles!

While they are always careful when they play, they will know that if something does happen to the string, there is a replacement available. It will also make them realize that there are people out there who care about music in our schools.
