My students are energetic and passionate about music making. They have spent years working hard at their instruments to excel alone and as an ensemble. My students are curious and inquisitive about new ways to make music, but have limited resources.
My students are the ones that developed this project to be posted on donorschoose.org!
They would like to describe our school and band in their own words: "Our school band is located in a rural area in western Pennsylvania. Music and arts are very important to us and give us an edge of other schools in our area. The majority of the students in our school, however, are not involved in music or the arts. We would like to create a opportunities for more students to get involved."
As you can see, our students are very proud of our community and our school, but believe that we can do better!
My Project
Our students would like to share more about our music program and how they would like to improve it:
"We currently do not have any string instrument instruction at our school. We believe that a string section in our band and music program, would create a new opportunity for students to get involved with the arts and music. Our music program needs to have more diversity to accommodate interest. We believe that purchasing several inexpensive violin starter kits for our students, will help encourage further musicianship for our current band students and potentially attract students who have not learned an instrument before."
Our teacher would like to add:
"String instrument instruction has been on a decline in our area for many years. Currently students at our school who would want to learn the violin would need to get lessons at the university. We would like to create an opportunity here at our school for students to learn the violin."
Donations for this project will increase the diversity of offerings for music instruction to our students.
It would open up a greater understanding of our musical history from orchestral to folk music traditions. Our students are exposed through the media and music to string instruments, but do not have the opportunity to learn how to play them. Perhaps one of these violins will inspire a passion for life long music making for one of our students.
