This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When asked what instrument people want to learn, the most common answer is by far the guitar. As a second-year music teacher, I am working to expand instrumental offerings available to my students. Right now, students learn music fundamentals using primarily bucket drums and ukulele. However, there is high demand for a guitar component, especially in my high school–level classes. I am fortunate to have a few guitars on hand, but we are two short of having a full class set. In addition, there is not storage space or additional strings.

This project will allow high school students to learn guitar as a part of their music class, rather than as an add-on.

Being able to bring guitar into the main high school music curriculum will increase accessibility for my students, many of whom work, play sports, or participate in other extracurriculars and clubs. Help my students strike a chord, literally!
