Stretching Our Way to Our Fitness Goals

Help me give my students supplies to bring fitness into our gym as well as to replace older supplies.

My Project

Our charter school is a Title I school serving students from New Jersey. Seventy-nine percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students try so hard each and everyday to be the best they can be both academically and socially. They WANT to do well in all academic areas. In current times, physical fitness for our youth is a thing of the past. Many kids spend most of their times indoors. Gym class is often the students only time they are active.

In my gym class in particular, we don't always just do the typical activities, we also incorporate personal fitness and focus on things like stretching our bodies and moving them in ways we didn't know we could.

While we currently have some yoga mats, we don't have enough for each student in the class to have one so I am having to do more rotations. I also would like to have the stretch bands to really level up our movements. Students will use both of these items several times a week in class. A school favorite is volleyball. We love playing and hold several inner school competitions not only with the students, but with the staff as well. Our current nets is starting to fall apart and it is becoming beyond repair at this point. A new one would allow our competitions to continue. Our school also has a boys and girls basketball team. When we travel to other schools for away games, we have got to experience playing games with these types of balls and our current ones just aren't as good. Our team would love to use the same type of balls other schools are using. We are so excited to be able to use all of these items during our class.
