My Students

My students are absolutely incredible! They are inaugural class our Dual Language Immersion program. They learn in Spanish for half the day and in English for the other half. I teach the English side of our program. My students amaze me everyday with how eager they are to learn in both languages and with how quickly and efficiently they code switch between the languages.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses.

About half of my students are English Language Learners and the other half come from English speaking families and are learning Spanish. The face challenges in the classroom everyday and the persevere with smiles on their faces.

My students are a joyful bunch and I love spending my days teaching them!

My Project

My school district is all about Literacy and Justice for All. We are fully embracing the Science of Reading so that we can effectively teach reading through phonics and language comprehension to our youngest students. As a 2nd grade Dual Language English teacher, my job is to provide my students with strong phonics instruction so they can develop strong language comprehension to become strong readers.

A huge part of my day is providing small group instruction that focuses on the skills my students need most!

In order to focus on my small groups, I need my other students to be engaged in meaningful and intentional independent work. Help me provide my students with fun phonics games, comprehension work and special floor desks to work from. These things will help my classroom run smoother and they will provide my students with such great learning opportunities!
