My Project

Scholastic's Storyworks Magazine for fourth through sixth graders is an amazing reading tool to have in the classroom. I have used it this year in my fourth grade classroom to integrate Social Studies with Reading. This magazine includes a variety of texts such as nonfiction historical articles, Reader's Theater scripts, debates, poetry, and original fiction stories.

For this project, I am requesting a class subscription of the digital version of the Storyworks magazine for the upcoming school year.

Storyworks provides so many supplemental texts we can use in Social Studies units we do, such as World War II, September 11th, and Westward Expansion. Just today, my class read a historical fiction play about Fly Girls during World War II. This resource allows me to put so many different types of passages in front of my students as they are learning to read and analyze complex texts.
