My students need blank books to write and illustrate their stories, various markers and other supplies to make them come to life, and snacks to keep them motivated throughout the project!
I teach English to 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students at an alternative school in upstate New York. Our area was home to many corporations and small businesses, but as the economy has shifted, so has this area. The goal of our alternative school setting is to encourage our students to become future entrepreneurs in the hopes that they will give back to the area they grew up in.
My 9th and 10th graders are currently working to become stronger writers through a variety or writing and editing activities in order to prepare for our next project: writing, edit, illustrating, and physically creating children's books for a 1st grade classroom in our district.
In order for this project to be a success, we need materials like hardcover blank books and fine-tip permanent markers for the actual production of the books, as well as a few snacks to keep us motivated and to share with the elementary school students when my students read to them!
Please consider supporting us in this creative writing endeavor!
My Project
My students are determined to create the most AUTHENTIC children's books for the 1st grade class we will be reading to. They want to go beyond simple computer paper, so having their very own blank book to write and illustrate will make a huge difference in the final product each student produces. In addition, having access to fine-tip markers, rulers, and letter stencils will help their books like even more professional and "authentic." Finally, the snacks will come in handy both as students are creating and designing their books, but also when we go visit: students will have snacks to offer the 1st graders to make the whole event comfortable and celebratory!
