High school can be that fun and sometimes funny, awkward time in life when kids are cramming their brains full of information and trying to look cool at the same time. Thank goodness for our electives where they get to release some of that pressure and create new characters and places and things.
My students are enthusiastic about creating and learning in a digital environment.
My students are 9th through 12th graders and come in and out of my room from 7:30 to 3:30 to work on projects. I am the digital design teacher at a Los Angeles high school where most students are bused in from various surrounding cities. Many of my students do not have access to computers at home and rely on our school's computers to do their work. They share these with many other students. We are fortunate to have so many students excited about technology and so inquisitive about learning the latest tools and trends in a changing world.
My Project
These resources will enable our students to continue to develop their ideas and further develop their creativity.
My digital lab is a place my students come to explore new ideas and get inspired by artists old and new.
Every tool and lesson we offer in the lab gives our students another avenue to explore the arts and their pathways to careers. Every student has the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the digital lab and they are grateful for the amount of programs available to them. I give our students a say in which projects they prefer to work on most and we dive into a variety of design programs to teach critical thinking and creative skills. Students choose artists to base their projects on, which will help them continue to become independent learners.
With these new tools, my students will be able to continue working on projects without losing any time.
They will also allow them to further their learning by building on previous days and weeks assignments. The best way to increase skill is to practice more, and these tools will continue to help my students grow stronger in skills and knowledge. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent learning, and this will only help enrich their experiences.
