Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Little Community Library has become a spot of interest on campus, a place where students pause between classes, browse for something new, and share books they love with their peers. But as we head into summer, our shelves are running low, especially on the kinds of high‑interest books that keep teenagers reading when school is out. To keep this momentum going, we want to restock the library with titles that are popular among high school students right now: fast‑paced fiction, graphic novels, contemporary romances, thrillers, and the BookTok favorites they’re constantly asking about.

Having access to appealing, relevant books is one of the strongest predictors of whether students will read by choice — and choice reading is where confidence, fluency, and lifelong habits grow.

Many of our students don’t have easy access to bookstores or public libraries, so this small community library becomes their most reliable source of books they actually want to read. When the shelves are full, students take risks on new genres, trade recommendations with friends, and return again and again. When the shelves are empty, those opportunities disappear.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
