Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from all over New York City. Some of our students are in all AP classes, while some are in self-contained special needs classes. Students come to our school for a variety of reasons such as the rich offering of athletics and after-school activities, the medical academy, college preparation activities, and a variety of clubs and teams.
The library is one place where many of the students come together.
Our students reflect the rainbow of identities of the city. They work hard and they are excited and eager to learn. We hope that our collection and offerings can help reflect this rainbow.
My Project
Spanish surrounds our non-Spanish-speaking students. When they learn Spanish, they help to open doors to friendships, jobs, and more in their community and in the world. Though our Spanish teachers make learning Spanish fun, they've asked whether the library could make learning Spanish even more fun by reading books that match their interest, vocabulary, and maturity level.
Help our students get "Peter va a Colombia" an engaging, action-packed short novel that first-year Spanish students can easily grasp.
It's written in the present tense and built on a list of 350-plus Spanish nouns, verbs, and common expressions. Students acquire basic vocabulary and grammar while gaining confidence with the target language; The character is a teenager, a video game enthusiast. Students will learn about the rich environment of Colombia while also exploring the issues of poverty and isolation in Colombia. Help empower our students' Spanish fluency with this great book!
