It really is true that "variety is the spice of life."
Nowhere can that be found more so than in our classroom. I teach in a multi-age classroom of kindergarten and first grade students who are eager to learn and know more about everything! They come from a diverse background of families, cultures, learning needs, languages, and life experiences, even at their young age. My "children" truly bring great variety to the classroom which makes all of our lives richer for being together.
This variety offers me the opportunity to find unique strategies, materials, and learning experiences that will meet the needs of so many different learners and help them all to be successful both in our classroom and in the world.
My children are quite honestly captivated by reading and LOVE to listen to stories read aloud, act them out, & retell them with props. I find that supplementing a story with the feltboard pieces to retell it, extends that piece of literature and allows the children to work on retelling, remembering, ordering events, comparing stories, character studies, discussion of settings, and so much more besides helping them gain a greater love for reading! As a result of providing feltboard story sets this year, the students have come to enjoy the feltboard station as one of their favorite classroom learning stations to visit. I have also been able to capitalize on their interest to use this area for math, but would like do more in this area as well and lack enough materials to do this properly.
Now that we are at the mid-year point, I am needing additional materials for this learning area in order to continue to keep it varied, exciting, and engaging for the children for the remainder of the year, and for students in the years to come.
I need to purchase additional story-telling sets that will continue to engage the children in learning through literature. I also need a few math sets that will allow the children to practice what they are learning through hands-on work in sorting, classifying, counting, number recognition, addition & subtraction, graphs, and so much more.
Your donation will allow me to purchase felt sets to use for lessons and in learning stations. The children will be able to retell & revisit familiar and loved stories and tales and to use the feltboard station in math and phonics lessons/activities such as sorting and comparing, counting, number & letter recognition, building and reading words and other activities that I will create using these materials.
Your generosity will enable a group of children to continue to find learning captivating and exciting, and will add a little more "spice" to our wonderfully varied learning environment! Thank you so very much!
