Stories and Markers: The Art in Leadership

Help me give my students markers, watercolors, poster board, and other materials for opportunities to take an idea and create a work showcasing how they see that idea come to life.

My Students

Ambitious, kind, generous, studious, hard-working are all words that describe my early-college high school students. These kiddos are not only invested in their education but are eager to be contributing members of society. These kind hearts are seeking ways to develop leadership strengths and grow their personal character.

My kids believe the best way to help create a kinder world starts with what they do for others.

My students' creativity and ability to learn concepts enhances when they can create from knowledge. While theory-heavy, this leadership course comes to life with the creations of my students.

From SMART Goal magazine collages to fictional text threads between JKF, Napoleon, and Gandhi, I see that my students internalize leadership concepts best when they can create a work from the theories presented. Their enthusiasm for self-development is enhanced when they can collaborate and create.

My Project

Much of distance learning focuses on helping students understand concepts taught. It is in the classroom, where creativity and collaboration reign dominant, that students cultivate the spirit of connection with peers through stories, activities, and collaboration.

My students are able to connect with taught concepts, leaders, and classmates when they collaborate together to create.

I have found that leadership theories are best internalized when I can teach the idea, read a story showcasing that idea, and then provide an opportunity for my students to create based on their understanding with materials like markers, watercolors, and poster board. Truly, I have learned that learning leadership--the demonstrated ability to influence others towards a common goal--begins in the classroom.
