My Project

This year, my students have flourished in both social and academic areas thanks to our implementation of Purposeful Play. Purposeful Play is an initiative our district implements in its early childhood grades. EPS has always been focused on serving children through the use of best practices. Not only do our early childhood students desire time to play, but they also need it to be successful. Our committee completed months of research and collaboration to determine what changes needed to be made to serve the whole child. Our conclusion was this,

“Decades of research and evidence tell us children construct their knowledge and make sense of the world through play.

Purposeful Play allows children to make meaning out of seemingly everyday experiences. It is engaging and intentional. ” Purposeful Play will enable students to engage in inquiry choice play. I use this time to promote critical thinking skills in our young scholars while tracking the meaningful academic connections that the students are authentically making through their playtime.

This is where I need your help! To provide my students with Classic Birch Store Anything Medium Classroom Shelves to create connections between our standards and their play experiences authentically, I have been seeking out materials that will help make this possible! Students who play also have the opportunity to support their social-emotional learning through problem-solving and peer interactions. We have been very blessed by the amount of materials we have to use during Purposeful Play, but a strong need we have is more defined storage to keep things organized. This shelf will provide an accessible and defined space for students to store and put away their learning materials for our separate learning areas!
