My Students
My students attend a Title I school in the heart of New York. They are special needs students and English language learners, which makes learning challenging. My students come from a variety of economic backgrounds, with all of them qualifying for free lunch. The school population is very ethnically diverse as well. We serve a rising number of Hispanic and African students. Needless to say, students come to school with their own unique set of struggles and successes.
One thing the students have in common, though, is their love for school and learning.
I hope to create an environment at school and at home that meets their unique needs.
My Project
It is hard to cope with this new way of learning and now having to fend for yourself. My students lost caregivers, father, mothers and grandmothers to the coronavirus. Despite this tragedy, they are still attending classes online and are being as strong as they can be. But they can't do that if they are worried about food. These snacks and food will help ease some of that stress. With a full stomach, they will be able to focus on school and be able to improve their grades.
We are all learning that being strong is our only option.
Parents and caregivers are struggling to support their children. But, we forget that the children are thrust into learning how to care for themselves and their siblings. Let’s help by making this stay at home a little easier.
