As one of the largest middle schools in the area, our school serves over 1700 students in grades 6-8. Our population is comprised of many different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as multi-lingual learners.
As digital natives, our students come to us with a curiosity to further their 21st century technology skills.
The students in the art department are highly motivated, interactive, eager learners. Students thrive when given the opportunity to learn something new and showcase their creativity and ideas.
My Project
Our project is to create a stop-motion animation video using their school issued iPad. A 16 inch tall wire rack is the best piece of equipment that will securely hold their iPad in place during the creation of their videos. We want to provide good quality scissors to students since they will be creating all of the characters and scenes from construction paper. Their iPads need to be kept still and elevated above the scene as they move characters and scenery around. We also want all students to be able to participate everyday and we recognize that sometimes a iPad lose a charge sooner then wanted therefore we want to provide charging cords so students will be able to work when they are in class.
The students will be taught how to use various interdisciplinary skills such as: writing, ratio and sizing, sequencing, creative problem solving and non-verbal communication as they plan and create their stop-motion videos.
This is why we are passionate about providing this stop-motion animation opportunity for our students. It involves almost all the skills kids go to school to learn.
