Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am lucky to teach art to every student in the building which adds up to more than 500 students in a high-poverty public school. This includes first through fifth-grade classes, including bilingual classes and self-contained special needs. We are 85% low income, resulting in all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch daily. Our school is located in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community with 50% of students being English Language Learners and 80% of students speaking Spanish at home.
My Project
My students need new stools for the art room and neon paper! Right now we have a variety of seating in our room, and some are not art room seats. Having stools in the art room encourages students to sit up properly to work on their artwork. I am hoping to add stools to the whole room!
I am also requesting neon cardstock for a printmaking project.
My students are learning about Andy Warhol and will be doing a print based on his work. I am looking to teach them about positive and negative space with this project and layering color.
