Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a brand new elementary school in Arkansas. We are at 90% poverty level, with almost 80% of our students coming from racially diverse families. In addition, most of our students speak English as their second language. Because of this, we are constantly working to ensure that our students receive hands-on activities and real life experiences.
It is our hope that students will learn new life skills at school and bring those skills home to help better their families.
While education is the pathway out of poverty, economics is the path to financial stability.
My Project
As a new building, we want to offer exciting programs for our students. The students are interested in participating in school clubs. Currently, the students want to start a small business as a club. The students will create custom stickers using the design software that comes with the Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine. Students will sell the stickers in the student run business.
By creating this small business, students learn how to use art to create a business, how to run their own company, as well as how to market to a specific audience.
Allowing students to take ownership in their artwork and their business, they become stakeholders in the club. This experience will provide the added bonus of allowing students to develop financial skills, such as decision making, investing, entrepreneurship, and budgeting. Giving these students the tools to boost themselves out of poverty and become informed and confident citizens.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
