Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

After seven wonderful years in Kindergarten, I have decided to transition into the Special Education department of my district and open a new LINKS classroom. This means that I will be working solely with K-2 students who are diagnosed with autism. I am very excited about this new challenge, but I also recognize that I will need to make adjustments to my current classroom and practice.

The materials in this project will help me set up the classroom that I envision for my special education students.

Bright fluorescent lighting can be very stressful for students who have sensitive visual processing. The warm white LED lights will allow me to illuminate our classroom with calm, inviting lights that will be out of the student's reach. The stepping stones and body socks will provide a fun and safe way for sensory processing in the classroom. The cabinet locks will make sure that materials are stored safely. The light up and sensory toys will provide a fun and stimulating environment for students to learn. Finally, the office supplies will be used to put together student binders and work stations.
