My students are amazing! They mainly come from homes struggling to put food on the table.
My classroom is filled with special education and ESL students who are burning with a desire to learn!
Many of my students struggle with behaviors and home-lives that make it harder for them to learn. All of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and come from low-income homes. Students are in mixed groupings to encourage cooperative learning and find the value and strengths in every student.
In my project, I have Lego sets to start my classroom collection of Legos. I plan on using the Legos to teach simple machines in science and, building numbers in base 10 and counting in math.
Using Legos, I want to engage my students in a new and exciting way in science and math.
I hope using the Lego sets, the students will be more encouraged and engaged to work hard and learn through exploration. I have a lot of ESL students who are still working on English skills. I also hope that with cooperative learning groups, students will be encourage to talk to each other as they work in groups and build more English vocabulary while learning!
