My Students

What do I love about my students? I love their liveliness, their courage, their amazing smiles, their hunger for learning, and their never-ending energy. I love that they are kind, thoughtful, and generous. I love how they see the world with fresh eyes and fresh ideas.

The genuine, joyful curiosity my students have truly lights up my world and makes coming to work each day a joy.

I just love their utter eagerness to learn about the world in which they live.

These little ones that I hold so dear to my heart make coming to school every day a complete pleasure—they inspire ME on a daily basis.

My Project

This past year, I have done a lot of research on the benefits of play in first grade. Through play, children learn critical problem-solving skills, social skills, and best of all, they engage joyfully in critical thinking. I once had the belief that there was "no time" for play in first grade as there is so much learning to be done. Through my own journey, I have come to understand that it is through play that much learning happens for our young students.

Because of the critical importance of play in first grade, I have decided to implement STEM bins into my first grade classrooms so students have time each day to explore, create, and problem-solve using materials they find interesting to them.
