This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students deserve a 21st century education that allows them to not only absorb content, but to apply what they have learned in meaningful real-world experiences. Four years ago, a group of teachers decided to provide students with hands-on ownership of their learning. This was a major pedagogical shift that allowed our students to utilize project-based learning as an outlet for deeper more relevant learning.

Our students live in a beautiful rural community that values STEM and project-based learning.

Students need to be prepared for high school as well as college and career. Allowing them a global understanding will better open opportunities to themselves and their community. This drive to give students every opportunity possible is a mission and a vision of this school district.

My Project

My students will be engaging in a cross-curricular STEM unit centered around the Holocaust. They will be learning about tolerance by using science, technology and engineering to build a tolerance legacy, memorial or tribute at their school. They will need various art supplies to complete this activity. The 3D pens will help them build their models and add complex detailing. The paint marker, water color paper and foam board will be used by every 8th grader at my school as basic materials for their design. They need a selection of materials because every student comes up with their own prototype based on their ideation of the problem.

Through the stages of design thinking they will construct a memorial, legacy or tribute.

Having brush pens, hot glue guns and card stock will allow them to build their creations. The Dremel filament will be used as another resource option. Students can use a CAD program to design and build their prototypes and use the filament to print them on our 3D printer. These materials will allow my students to have options on how they choose to build their solution. We need enough for the entire 8th grade class.
