My Students

I am a teacher at a small school on the slopes of Haleakala in Upcountry Maui. More than half of my students live below the poverty line and all of them have the ability to rise above it. They are smart, social, and interested in just about everything! They are curious and enjoy exploring our island home with the friends they make at school.

Our classroom is a safe place for friends to collaborate on projects and is full of learning opportunities.

My students enjoy being able to rotate around our classroom to different learning stations. Students in our class can be found working quietly at chosen desks or sitting on floor pillows engaging in lively discussion.

Our classroom utilizes a flexible seating plan, a maker-space, and a collaborative atmosphere to practice skills and make discoveries!

My Project

This kit will allow my students to explore how bubbles behave! They will investigate the properties of different materials from cardboard tubes to pipe cleaners as they engineer different types of bubble wands. At the end of their exploration they will host a Bubble Bonanza Showcase where they can demonstrate their creations. Students will use the Engineering Design Process to plan and create!

Kids are naturally curious and they LOVE bubbles.

STEM projects encourage teamwork, creativity, design, exploration, and resilience all the while providing standards based experiences. This kit includes all the materials necessary for my class to become student engineers!

Students learn best when they have choices and can see results. Designing and creating a wand that will create a lasting bubble will empower them as they learn from trial and error. This will build their resilience and allow for collaboration with classmates.
