This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low income area where a lot of my students do not have the proper technology and equipment at home to help them be successful in school. We all know times are changing and technology is huge in education. Most careers involve some type of technology and a lot of humans are losing their jobs to technology. I feel it's important that my students understand technology and the role it plays in our future.
My students strive to learn and are always curious about what we are going to be doing next.
They love hands-on activities and are able to problem solve best when they have the physical object in their hands.
My Project
These materials will make a difference to my students because they are items that they do not get to use on an everyday basis or items that they do not have at home.
The students are very engaged in the interactive Osmos.
The Osmo kits will allow me to serve more students at the same time. We have more manipulative sets than we do the actual Osmos. With more Osmos, I will be able to use all of the manipulatives at the same time and get more students involved.
The batteries are for other STEM activities that we already have. As you know, batteries are expensive and that makes keeping up with the maintenance of some materials hard and unaffordable. The pencil sharpeners are of course for sharpening pencils. My class is always in need of these.
The multiplication/division STEM game is for centers/small group activities. Anytime I can take a skill and use it in game form is a win for my students and myself. The class posters are the keep the students encouraged to keep learning and not to give up.
