My Students
Our school serves students in grades Pre-K through 5 including ESE. We have a very diverse student population. The majority of our students are from a low socioeconomic group. A large percentage speak another language or are just beginning to learn English. All are eager to learn and enjoy attending our school. Due to a lack of funding we do not have an adequate supply of materials. All students will become engaged and motivated through technology class. This will motivate the students to pursue careers in the sciences.
My Project
The use of these kits will promote students' fundamental STEM understanding of simple and powered machines, structures, and mechanisms. The students will design and observe the behavior of their models. They reflect and re-design the model functionality and present their findings. Students build the models together, each focusing on their part of the model - strengthening their 21st-century skills in collaboration and communication. These kits will create a broad range of models that cover concepts such as: forces and motion, measuring, energy and structure.A motor is also included to allow students to build self-propelled machines - adding a totally new dimension of teaching opportunities to the solution.
