Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a class of 25 LITTLE SCIENTISTS READY to EXPLORE OUR WORLD We are inquisitive, curious and natural explorers. We enjoy getting our hands in the dirt, observing insects interacting within their habitats, and applying our knowledge and schema to new learning experiences. Our favorite time of the day is building and creating in the STEM center.
On rainy days, we explore our natural surroundings in rainboots and raincoats.
We are not afraid of a little rain. Instead we embrace the opportunity to see how the Earth absorbs the rainwater. We write words in the mud and watch as the wind blows ripples in the puddles. On sunny days, we observe how the sun moves in the sky and watch our shadows. We explore changing temperatures.
We make connections, observations and come to our own conclusions of how the world works around us. Nature is our classroom. We may be five years old, but if you ask us we are ASTRONOMERS, BIOLOGISTS, ENGINEERS, MATHEMATICIANS, PALEONTOLOGISTS, METEOROLOGISTS & any type of scientist we have learned about. We are the future scientists!
My Project
As a female scientist and teacher myself, I see the importance of bringing STEM learning opportunities to ALL my students beginning at an early age. My kindergarteners will be experimenting and evaluating the information they discover to develop an understanding our world a little bit more. My students will learn and use the Scientific Method as a guide to finding solutions to their scientific problems.
With STEM key experiences my students will have an opportunity to develop into critical thinkers, increase their science literacy, and foster a love for innovating.
The magnets, tiles, light table and manipulatives will give my kindergarteners an opportunity to explore and discover how things work, how to design and build models.
