Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my students are English language learners at different levels of language proficiency. They attend elementary school in a small agricultural community. They struggle with poverty and other border issues. For instance, 100% are in free food service programs. Another example is that some of them are living with relatives because of family, health, and social issues. In many instances, my students are under the care of grandparents or raising by older siblings since their parents work long hours in the fields.

Some of my newcomer students struggle to take risks in a new country and language, while others are becoming proficient.

A majority of them are eager to learn and take advantage of every opportunity being offered at school.

Despite the situation of some students being the first generation in the United States, they come to school and support one another with acquiring a new language at the same time that they work the academic requirements of fourth grade.

My Project

The materials on "Stem, "S" Team will help students design, create, compare, contrast, discuss and affirm one another as they share their ideas and creations. The hands on materials will be use in conjunction with our reading and science curriculum to provide hands on activities and connections on topics such as electricity, earthquake safety, water pollution, and more. I will provide materials and encourage students to formulate questions, do research, provide multiple approaches and hypothesize possible solutions and outcomes. My students will be presenting their understandings. We might be distant but we will be virtually teaming and working through breakout rooms if necessary to promote creativity and innovation. Distance learning will not keep my students from engaging on challenging activities and quality materials. I count on your support to make it happen!
