This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting dogfish sharks so that I can do dissections with each class. In 6th grade we learn about animal diversity and a shark dissection will fit nicely in the curriculum. These dissection specimens will provide an experience requiring collaborative group work, proper lab techniques, visual and motor stimulation, and involvement by all students. The use of dissection specimens will allow students to conceptualize important curriculum principles of anatomy and physiology.

Using hands-on activities like the sharks helps my students connect to the material and increases their enthusiasm for science.

When I surveyed my students last year, their favorite activity was shark dissections. My new students know that I did dissections last year and are hoping for the same opportunity. Your donation will help make a positive difference in my students' lives and provide them with an experience that they will never forget!
