My Students
My students mostly come from farming backgrounds in rural western Oklahoma. Some are being raised in extremely low socioeconomic households, a few have millionaires for parents, but all of them have a desire to challenge themselves and work hard to meet their goals. I have never seen a more motivated group of students.
Most of my students will more than likely find careers in the area, but some are dreaming big and are planning on using their education as a ticket to bigger and better things.
I hope that we can provide them that opportunity!
My Project
The purpose of this field trip is to relate my lessons about forces and motion to real-world activities. iFly is a company that uses a vertical wind tunnel to simulate sky diving.
I believe that STEM skills are very important in today's changing world, and that the opportunities offered at iFly are too good to pass up.
The field trip consists of many hands-on opportunities that build on the students' prior knowledge of how forces affect motion. The wind tunnel at iFly provide us with a unique opportunity to learn about how surface area of liquids and solids affect air resistance.
