Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a high needs, Title One school in Oregon. I have a diverse classroom full of active, intelligent and creative students. My vibrant group of students have diverse social, emotional and behavioral needs. Most of my students are learning English as a second language. They keep me on my toes with their inquisitive minds and their desire to work collaboratively. Although they face so many challenges, they always come to school happy and excited to learn, so I want to support them the best I can!
They love to learn and are often looking for new ways to be future innovators in STEM activities!
My students have the potential to do amazing things; they just need some help recognizing their ability and applying their strengths. I would love to offer even more opportunities for my students to experience STEM learning in a fun way that they haven’t been exposed to before, while still increasing their engagement in the learning process of science and feeling successful in our learning space.
My Project
My students love being "scientists". If you have never seen students transformed from six or seven year olds into scientists, engineers and computer programmers, then you are missing out! Students learn best through hands-on experiences. These resources are wonderful because every aspect of learning is incorporated; reading, writing, science and math. Along with learning how to work communally as a team, these STEM resources will help my students explore math and science cooperatively, to discover, explore, compare and contrast data with others in the classroom.
STEM Kits and science centers are the best hands-on learning that promote spatial reasoning for creative little minds.
Using the various STEM resources like science life cycle viewers, life cycle learning boxes and mammal specimen centers, my students will be able to explore the world around them. The fairy tale problem solving STEM kit set 2 will allow my students to work together as teams to build and problem solve. These skills are helping to prepare my students for college and STEM careers in the future.
