Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need STEM materials, nonfiction, fiction texts and fairy tales to help make connections and enhance the enjoyment of both reading and science.
My students are eager to learn and enjoy hands-on activities that bring learning to life.
I teach at a Title I school and 100% of the students receive free breakfast, snack and lunch. Although many students don't have all the economic advantages they might benefit from, every student comes with a desire to learn. My students love to listen to fairy tales and would benefit from the creativity of engineering their own designs as they create solutions to overcome the problems the fairy tale characters pose.
My Project
Non-fiction and fictional texts will bring meaning to engineering and science through real-life application and connections. By building and experimenting with LEGO Sets, connecting straws and other materials, students will get hands-on opportunities to help support a better understanding of the scientific world. Students’ learning will come to life as they enjoy the scientific processes and begin to spark a lifelong interest in science and engineering.
My students will learn to work collaboratively in small groups to create solutions and become "heroes" to the characters facing villains in the fairy tales we read.
