Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom everyday full of life, ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is the best first grade class in the whole world?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title I school in Florida where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend and our school also runs a food pantry for our families.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
I cannot think of a better way to allow my first grade students to stretch their imaginations than to challenge them to use their engineering and problem-solving skills with these STEM activity kits. The LEGO kits will allow my emerging engineers the opportunity to enhance their mathematical skills. It will teach them concepts such as direction, cause and effect, and trial and error. Students will use LEGO's and the base plates during our STEM time. They will be able to use their imaginations to design, revise, and evaluate their work. Not only will these materials cover our STEM goals, they will also help my students practice working cooperatively in small groups. Teamwork makes the dream work!
