I work in a classroom full of 19 energetic and eager to learn students. They are funny, kind, caring, and unique. My students are a part of a large district in a high poverty and rural area.
These children are more than just my students, they are like my second family.
Each child in my classroom is loved and cared about. I hope to make a difference in each of their lives and make many memorable moments that will last a lifetime.
My Project
Going into my 4th year of teaching, I am realizing our morning routine is not as effective or as valuable as it could be. I have been doing some research and have found that giving students the chance to build and play while learning will reach even my most reluctant learners. It will also create a positive and fun way to start our day.
Giving students the chance to engage in activities that develop social skills and creative and flexible thinking and problem solving skills, all before our day begins, will create a positive learning environment that will help set the tone for the rest of the day.
I used to put worksheets on my students' desks that they were expected to do before morning meeting. Most students would comply and follow the directions, but they were not engaged or excited about doing the work. Also, some students would do everything in their power to avoid it. Having these materials will help motivate and engage my students and my hope is this will get students excited to come to school and learn.
