This year in my 1st grade classroom I have 17 little learners so far! The school year has just begun and I can’t wait to jump right into some fun hands on projects with my students.
The joy of teaching young learners is that you can really see excitement when they are learning and having fun!
I want to provide my students with opportunities to have fun engaging lessons that build their critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) can help achieve that by allowing students to get hands on in a way that is so common and familiar to them in the world today, which can significantly advance their learning. Using STEM more often in the classroom is my goal this year for my students!
My Project
Students live in a technology rich world that is constantly changing. STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) allows children to learn through play.
Having students engage in STEM based learning is hands on, fun, engaging, and is very applicable to their future, even at such a young age.
STEM can be integrated in many different content areas and is easy for students to understand, which makes learning so much fun for them.
The materials that I have requested would allow students to build, be creative, and show their thinking. They will also allow the students to use coding in the classroom in many different subject areas. They are using technology and STEM materials to enhance their learning in the classroom, which in turn, will promote higher- level critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication.
Students will use the Code and Go Robots to program their robot to move x amount of spaces and complete the task that they land on. The robots all take AAA batteries, so I am asking for rechargeable batteries and the charger for them to keep them charged and ready to use whenever we need. During STEM activities students are usually asked to build something. The gears, magnetic blocks, and the interlocking disks will help students achieve this much easier and can be reused over again! Thank you for taking a look at our project.
