Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our class needs highly motivating tools to help students navigate through their creative and engineering processes while collaborating with students in other areas of the world. Providing a learning space where students learn through gameplay, helps them learn how to properly engage with others online and in person. Due to the Covid pandemic, our younger students have lost out on the experience of socializing and interacting with others and are now demonstrating struggles with social interaction.

Giving students a platform and technology that speaks to them, such as a Nintendo Switch, will allow learning with social play to happen in a supervised classroom setting.

We will be able to engage in the Institute of Play STEM lessons and use their STEM KITS to build simple machines as we explore force and motion lessons. The Nintendo Switch will be a highly motivating and engaging resource to help students learn in a less traditional way. Through this project, students will be solving puzzles, as well as creating games for others to play. These resources will offer an entry point into my classroom for adding more games in the future that will address math, coding, and language skills in the future as well.
