My students are so excited to start getting hands-on STEAM experiences in our new Innovation Lab. We will delve into 3D printing, robotics, and programming, as well as many other hands-on projects. It is so fun to watch their faces light up when they see the results of their own creations.
The students are curious and creative, imaginative and innovative.
I love hearing their new ideas. We are a diverse school with many cultures and languages, and STEAM experiences are great at bringing everyone together for a common goal.
At our school, students can earn positive behavior rewards for being responsible, ready and respectful. These rewards are like school "money" that the students save up and can then be used to purchase fun items, like lunch with a teacher, basketball with staff, lunchtime movies, or extra STEM time.
One of the activities they can purchase is design time in the Innovation STEM lab to use the 3D printer or Cricut to make a special personalized print or sticker.
We also have lots of maker supplies in the Innovation lab that students have access to. The magnets can be used with the 3D printer to make fun souvenirs, beads are used for binary coding bracelets, copper tape is used to make mazes with the Makey Makeys, and the screwdrivers are added to our Un-Maker kits, all of which are available as student rewards.
