Ms. Andrea Carter from Decatur GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need STEM learning lab activities, project-based STEM activity books, storage bins, nonfiction books, a Samsung Galaxy tablet, and an iPad so that they can conduct STEM experiments.

Success is...knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others. If we are growing we are always going to be outside our comfort zone. Through explorations, trial and error I challenge my students to dream big and take risks.
My school is a Title I school in the state of Georgia.
More than 95% of our students receive free and reduced-price lunch. The school population is transient. It is often difficult to provide our students with meaningful, hands-on experiences due to our lack of resources. With that said, we have some of the most remarkable students in the country. Regardless of their backgrounds our students come to school eager to be challenged. Our students are open to new ideas, and push each other to think outside the box and search for their own understanding of concepts. Our students are very resilient and have big dreams.
Technology makes a big difference in the classroom. The STEM lab kits will allow students to explore engineering challenges. Through the use of STEM non-fiction readers and the tablets to conduct research students will have a rich environment to explore new concepts. These resources will allow students to challenge themselves as they learn about different types of engineering fields. By giving our kids the tools they need to succeed in STEM, we are giving them a huge leg up as they enter the job market. Studies show that STEM proficient students are able to answer complex questions, investigate global issues, develop solutions for challenges and real-world problems while applying the rigor of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content. STEM proficient students are logical thinkers who are technologically, scientifically, and mathematically literate. That is the goal for my students.
To watch a child smile when they have solved a problem, that they thought they could not is priceless.
STEM education helps students understand that a part of growing is that you learn from mistakes through trial and error. We take the notion that failure is not an option and flip it to show students that when something does not go as planned it is not a set back, but a time to grow. These hands on activities(project based STEM activities and learning centers) and other materials( STEM non fiction books, iPad, and tablet) will allow students to explore and get a better sense of self.
