My Students

The students from our school are a special group. They are full of life, energetic, eager to learn, and are always craving attention. They know that when they step through our doors they are in a safe, caring environment, surrounded by teachers who spend countless hours planning, strategizing, and delivering instruction that is tailored just for them.

Unfortunately, many of our students face challenges and hardships outside of school that are beyond our control.

We are a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Our students face poverty, gangs, drugs, domestic violence, and most recently Hurricane Florence. Through it all, our students come to school with a thirst for knowledge that rivals any school in the country. By using the power of technology and the internet our students have been able to catch a glimpse of the world and envision how they may fit into it in the future.

My Project

My students love coming to the STEM Lab once a week. Here they get to explore the world around them and learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through hands on lessons and activities that bring out the excitement and natural curiosity in each student. One thing that is lacking from our STEM Lab is a computer that can handle the rigors of playing high definition content, video editing, and graphic design software.

With this All-In-One touchscreen computer students will be able to let their imaginations be the limit of what they can do.

This computer is specifically designed to be used as a versatile work station where students can go from brainstorming, drawing, and collaborating to full out implementing using a variety of resources we already have.

One example of how students can use this would be to sketch a storyboard of a video they want to create. Once they know what their message is going to be they can use our drone, iPads, or green screen to capture the video they need and seamlessly upload it directly into the video editing software. Editing is no longer a process that could take weeks to complete due to the processing speed and power of this computer. Students of all ages and comfort levels with technology could use this computer because of the touchscreen capabilities.

Our students and school was severely impacted due to Hurricane Florence. Many homes were lost and many students relocated. The one thing that has been constant is our desire to provide the absolute best to our students, no matter the hardships they face at home. Exposing them to the types of technology professionals in STEM fields use inspires them at an early age to work hard and pursue a career of their own.
