My Students
When you enter our 21st-century kindergarten classroom, not only will you see Play-doh, building blocks, and paints, you will also see tablets, interactive whiteboards, and laptops. My students are a busy group of learners, eager to grow their mindsets and challenge themselves to do better and be better every day.
Our class is a melting pot of cultures.
Many of my students have just moved to our country and are just learning English, while others have lived here all their lives, but are experiencing school for the first time. Our school is a Title I school with over twenty-seven languages spoken. We also have the privilege of teaching children from military families. We are a community committed to providing the best education possible to all of our amazing students.
My Project
Kindergarteners are naturally inquisitive and love to “tinker!” What better way to foster their love of reading than to link it to Stem learning! As we enter the 21st-century I find that more and more children are not being exposed to classic fairy tales such as the Gingerbread Man and Little Red Ridinghood. Even when they are familiar with these stories, they are not as engaged. However, these stories provide an excellent foundation in literary elements. With these kits, the kids will be able to review important elements of the stories while also learning how to problem solve using their stem skills. It is a win-win for them as they get to combine their literacy and stem skills in engaging, hands-on activities!
