Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a small farming town, many of my students are migrants, children of immigrants, and/or low income. All of our students receive free/ reduced-price lunch and free breakfast. Some days they aren't sure what they may come home to. But these everyday challenges they face do not hold them back from coming to school every day and striving to find something new to learn about. They have so much fire and excitement every day to see what exactly they can accomplish together.
My kids love to learn!
One of our favorite things to do as a class is come together to blend art, music, STEM, and academics. Seeing their eyes light up as they finally solve a problem, or get to a better understanding by using their creativity, is one of the most rewarding things around! And boy are they creative! Every day I see them building their passions, interests, and hobbies right before my eyes. I cannot wait to see where they will go.
At our school we believe that if we create readers today, they will be leaders tomorrow. In such a small town, we are able to see our students grow and learn.
My Project
Engagement is a key factor in effective learning in the classroom! It is proven that students are much more engaged in a holistic, interdisciplinary classroom. With these materials, my students will have the opportunity to experience STEM in the classroom to enrich their learning experience and further their love for learning!
In today's world, STEM is so important for future success!
My students will use these building materials (suction cups, magnetic blocks, etc.) to engineer projects using critical thinking. They will use science materials (glue, slime activators, glitter, and measuring cups) to explore reactions and problem solving. They will use markers to create art and display their results from STEM experiments. They will use headphones to create codes. The books chosen are specific to the STEM field and these experiences will help my students enrich their learning and give them a competitive edge going forward!
