STEM in Special Needs!

My students need these items to help them learn in a different way! All of my students have special needs and are not able to learn conventionally like other students.

My Students

My students are of varying needs and abilities. I teach in kindergarten and first grade classroom with students with special needs. These students come from diverse families and backgrounds. Being that each student has varying special needs, each is working on something different and unique to help them become the best student and person they can be. My students come from a low-income community with families who work hard to help support their students as best they can!

Because students have different needs, each child gets what they need. This may look different than a traditional classroom where all students are getting the same thing. "Fair is not everyone getting what they need. Fair is everyone getting what they need to be successful."

My Project

I teach students in a self contained environment. My students are unable to learn conventionally so in our classroom we have to get creative. Throughout the day we incorporate all the different learning styles in order to teach each skill or concept. We also use music and technology to support students academic and social learning! Many of my students struggle with communicating with one another. Using games such as these enable students to work collaboratively to build their communication and critical thinking skills! The students have made so much progress socially by integrating STEM into our curriculum on a daily basis!

Here is a little bit about the items that we are requesting!!

The Botely robot will allow students to code using a "screen-free" technique! This will help students to learn the basics of coding! I also plan to hide words around the room and have the students program the robot to collect the words, and then put the words together to write a sentence! With bloxels the students can create their own stories using code! And using the last Brackitz pulley set, children will be creating scenes and settings to write their stories! This is a great outlet for students who have difficulty communicating. They build it first, and then are able to use language to describe their creation. We will then take it further, making it into a writing piece!
