My students need block and water play STEM early learning centers and a stethoscope to bring science and math into more interest areas in the classroom.
Childhood is a magical time when kids love everything about school. PreK is a time for exploration, play, and learning. My goal by the end of the school year is to have a class full of children who love science and math and have experienced both through a variety of classroom materials.
My classroom is made up of 16 very diverse students.
I have 4 Hmong students, 3 Samoan students, 1 Sudanese student, 1 Laotian student, 5 Alaska Native students, 1 Hispanic student, and 1 African American student. My school is located in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States. We are considered low income due to the number of students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunches. Many times my students come to school with only their basic needs being met at home. Coming to PreK and having exposure to a variety of toys and classroom materials broadens their view of the world and gives students invaluable experiences.
My Project
In our Title I PreK program, we have centers in which students get to learn and explore through self and teacher guided play. The math and science materials I am requesting will help students be more self directed in their learning in math and science centers in the classroom. The materials, which include block and water play STEM early learning centers and a stethoscope, will help the teachers guide students with more open ended questions and higher level thinking.
Students typically come to my classroom not having much experience with science and math.
The materials I am requesting will help students become more comfortable with math and science. In the long run, this will promote their love of learning and better prepare them for math and science throughout life.
