This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an urban high school district, and we do not have funding to buy graphing calculators. I have students who are taking Honors Calculus, and they absolutely love math. We have an influx of students this semester due to the fact that they took Algebra 2 as Freshmen. These students are special because they have high goals to be successful in as many advanced mathematics courses in high school as they can before attending college. Having graphing calculators in class helps to prepare them for Advanced Placement Calculus next year as well. My students say I make learning fun and they really understand the mathematics because we also incorporate the use of graphing calculators as well.

My Project

The use of TI 84 Plus CE Graphing Calculators is a daily activity in our Honors Calculus classroom. Students will use these calculators to write programs, explore graphical functions in color, perform Calculus operations during guided practice and through collaborative groups. Knowing how to use the graphing calculators in this class will cause my students to be well prepared for Advanced Placement Calculus next year. By having more graphing calculators in class, students will be able to understand how to solve Calculus problems graphically, analytically, verbally and numerically. By having graphing calculators, students will be able to grasp the Calculus on another level. Since we are using more technology in class now, having graphing calculators will enhance class discussions and allow students who are great at technology to really excel even more by helping others in class.

By donating to our project, you will help to improve instruction and increase student attention, focus and achievement.

Students will be able to focus on the Calculus in various ways having this graphing calculator technology. In addition, we live in a world where students are technologically literate at earlier ages, so when we increase their technology in this area, it will also give them a stronger desire to learn and grasp more challenging concepts as well, especially because they have this new technology where graphs are drawn in different colors. These calculators have interactive activities on them as well which makes learning fun and keeps students engaged in the learning.
