Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Deep in the heart of downtown San Antonio a community of scholars on the rise flourishes. With the odds stacked against us, we do our best to rise above and achieve dreams and goals never thought possible by the community. While we are classified as the poorest zip code in San Antonio, we are rich with life and love. Everyday we search for real life and (sometimes make-believe) heroes who can keep our inspiration alive.
We yearn for creativity, opportunity, and inspiration, often which we do our best to provide as teachers, but always need help with supplies and materials given the number of students we serve.
Our students love to play, create, invent and explore. There are currently 60 Kinder-aged students between our co-taught classes. 90% of our students are English Language Learners. They thrive with hands on materials and are best engaged with vivid visuals.

My Project
The books requested provide us with real life role-model inventors, scientists, engineers and architects that we can connect to first and foremost. Reading about the lives of great inventors who grew up similar to us helps us realize that we too can be great inventors some day! The 3-D building kits will help us connect kinetically to the ideas we read about and make deeper scientific connections with.
As English language learners, we always need something we can touch and manipulate to understand what we are hearing and also show what we are thinking as well!
We often times collect everyday materials being recycled to create inventions with. The new materials being requested will allow us to take our thinking and ideas further. We are excited to create new inventions with these materials!
