At our school, most of our students come from low-income households where they face many challenges in and outside of our classrooms. The majority of the students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Despite their SES, our students are bright, positive, and come into the classroom ready to learn.
We encourage to have our students to "Never let it rest until our Good is Better, and our Better is BEST!"
The elementary school years build a foundation for their education that can either be positive or negative. For the years to come, I want them to become life-long learners that love to explore and love to come to school with many opportunities to work with STEM and collaboration.
Our goal is to integrate more STEM learning opportunities for the students to experience hands-on learning to the growing digital era.
My Project
The employment opportunities that require coding, technology, and collaboration are constantly increasing. This year, I have had the opportunity to run the after-school club for Robotics for all of the grade-levels at our school. There is such a high interest in attendance that we need more materials!
With more materials, more students can have access to STEM learning and team collaboration with their peers.
I have gotten a few grants in the past two years but we need more so that the club can grow and more students can have an opportunity to join.
The snap circuits will be added to our current amount of snap circuits. I was so surprised of the high interest in this center, but students love the trail-and-error of circuits and problem-solving. The Osmo Awbie has also been a great manipulative to learn coding and blocking. Students have a high interest in this center because it is our job to get Awbie to complete a course and earn more strawberries!
Happy students are the best kind of students! Let's give them the opportunity to learn technology in a fun and exciting way!
