This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a lively group of scholars who are excited about STEM learning and who enjoy the benefit of a full day Kindergarten program in beautiful San Juan Capistrano. We cultivate a classroom of shared discovery and work on ways that we can help one another to grow in reading, math, and science.

We are motivated, excited, active scientists and mathematicians who love to explore the world around us, especially when it designing and creating new solutions to STEM-related problems.

Our classroom is our laboratory and we use tables, floors and even outdoor space to design, build and create new structures and explore the world around us. We are able to work in pairs and in small groups to learn and explore during our rotation time and we love to work together to solve new problems.

My Project

My students are creative engineers and architects who are constantly building new creations and testing their ideas. While they are confident in building their structures, I would like to challenge them and have them record their ideas on the double-wide teaching easel and have them present their creations to their classmates. This will not only cement their learning by recording it on the easel, but it will also help them develop their speaking skills (and allow my English Learners a wonderful chance to practice) and gain confidence in themselves as they present their work to the class.

My students love to teach the class about what they have learned and accomplished in our STEM lessons, and these tools will allow them to become the teacher to present their learning to their classmates.

My young architects will learn about spatial reasoning and building in three dimensions as they construct different buildings, bridges, and other design challenges with their I Can Build It Architecture Set as well as with their Jr. Architect Building Sets. The Young Architects Design sets will allow them to work on their own, with partners, or in teams to create designs which incorporate their learning. Building these items, making them work, and then writing about them and sharing their written work with others will help my students become the STEM engineers, architects, and designers of tomorrow.
