My students are very excited about school and eager to learn. They come to school everyday because they want to; not because they have to. They love having structure and being challenged in my classroom. They also love interacting with me and their classmates; but most of all the materials that are provided for them to learn and explore.
All of my students receive free breakfast and free or reduced lunch.
My school is a Title 1 school, which means that our school has a high percentage of children from low-income families. The neighborhood consist of homes, but mostly apartments. A lot of my students did not get the opportunity to play outside. They are mostly confined in the apartment watching television or playing video games. Most of their parents are working two jobs or are on drugs; thus, leaving their children to be cared for by grandparents.
My students love hands-on activities. They will use the STEM bundles during science rotations. These activities will provide a hands-on learning experience for students to create. Thus, hopefully giving them a passion to want a job in the STEM job industry.
We are a STEM generation!
My students are the future generation for STEM. I need to prepare them for our constantly changing world and give them a passion for this industry. I am extremely excited to give my first graders the opportunity to explore a variety of activities that will allow them to work cooperatively to solve problems.
These materials will make a tremendous difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives by giving them opportunities to explore and connect learning to their everyday lives.
