Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 24 wonderfully inquisitive kindergarteners in a low income area. My students have varied skills and abilities, as with any classroom. Some students can read words and add while others are still working on letter sounds and counting. They are very inquisitive and eager to try new things. They enjoy hands on activities and manipulating and building with materials. Science seems to captivate this class and they are hungry for more opportunities. Most of all my class is full of wonderfully kind and accepting students who are eager to learn.
My Project
These materials will help support students who otherwise would likely not have access to materials like these. My students love hands on learning and our classroom is lacking in manipulatives. These items would bring a wealth of math, science, and engeneering opportunities to these budding minds. As well as fostering group work and literacy concepts. These materials are open ended and foster creativity and critical thinking. I am planning on using these for group work, centers and morning work. Choice and variation are a huge motivator for little ones that help to reach all students. I want to provide my students as many opportunities as possible to be successful and spark a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Thank you.
