My classroom is comprised of 20 special little individuals who range in the ages of 3 and 4 years old. What makes us so special? We are part of a magnet school community that services students from all over the state of Connecticut, and that makes up our diverse population within our classroom community! Most of the students that make up our classroom families join us from inner city communities.
Each of these special little individuals carries their own needs in order for them to be successful in their first school experience.
Some of these needs include a range of disabilities such as motor delays, anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorders, sensory processing, developmental delays, and autism spectrum disorders. Our goals as teachers are to provide them with an environment that is comfortable and conducive to each of their learning styles in order for them to succeed. This project would benefit our preschool program to build their creative motor skills in order for them to be successful active learners!
My Project
These materials will help our 20 young children build upon their inquiry skills. Our students are young learners who utilize blocks and magnets to engage in play-based STEM activities to enhance their critical thinking. Our Magnet school uses a STEM approach to learning across all areas of the curriculum. Activities such as these will help aid the students in exploring math, science, and engineering based standards through building and constructing.
Early Childhood research has shown us that young children learn the most through a play-based curriculum.
STEM activities that students can engage in through open-ended play will develop their critical thinking skills.
