My Project

I would like to provide my students with the ability to create a three-dimensional, industry-standard, water-tight, ceramic pottery chicken nugget bowl. Throughout the 4-week project, students will consider the importance of 3D functional pottery, and its role in society, gain an understanding of manufacturing and hand-building functional pottery, develop critical skills to accurately create and glaze hand-built pottery by emphasizing balance, pattern, texture, and scale, and manipulate clay and glazes to create an aesthetically pleasing chicken nugget bowl.

I am requesting the supplies that will provide a wonderful opportunity to introduce three-dimensional pottery, explore STEAM and the principal techniques of design and manufacturing, and help my students communicate their visual language.

The pottery unit will build a stronger foundation for the art program by providing another creative platform for expression. It will spark students’ creativity and build greater interest in engineering. It will also help differentiate our art students from other local and regional art programs by expanding their awareness of STEAM and the visual arts. Many schools do not offer this type of project because it is costly and extremely messy, they do not have a kiln in the art room, and the final projects take up a lot of space for display.

Moreover, enriching our students’ lives with STEAM with more technical experiences provides greater knowledge, and empowers them to implement various techniques to satisfy their artistic expression.
